June 2011:in a quiet church hall in the south of England,A small group of devout Christians are watching a film-it depicts the outrageous behaviour of young people on Falaraki,Cyprus-the group watch in silence till the film ends 'i'm sure you are all as disgusted as i am by what you have witnessed' says the leader of the group calling itself 'Christian Soldiers''what can we do?'a middle aged woman says 'we tried petitioning parliament to get these 18-30 holidays banned-but to no avail!'a middle aged man says 'he's right!' another man says 'we can protest and protest but no one ever listens to us!''our day will come!'one woman in her 70's says 'you won't live to see it grandma!' a young woman in her early 20's says ruefully-a woman who until a few years ago was a hopeless alcoholic due to these holidays-the Christian soldiers sorted her out-she has not touched a drop for the last two years 'i'm disapointed in you Rachel!'-the leader of the group -the reverand Walters,says sternly 'respect for your elders at all time!-that is our most important rule!''i-i'm sorry!'-Rachel knows she is in deep trouble!'you have done very well keeping dry for the past 2 years Rachel-we are all very proud of you for that!but you still talk before you think!you have been warned twice before-last week one of the members caught you sunbathing topless in your garden!'Rachel blushed at the memory! Rachel says 'as you can see-we are all consenting adults-most of us abide by the communities rules-it is all for our own good!''w-what is to be my punishment?'Rachel replied 'you have transgressed our rules 3 times-you have been exposing your nakedness,associating with sinners and now been insolent to a community elder-we have given you two formal warnings-we have been completely fair with you!'Rachel nodded 'as you have seen in that disgusting film-public nakedness leads to lust!AND TO DRINK!'-the reverend then produced a bottle of Vodka-'this was found in your shopping bag!HOW DARE YOU POLLUTE OUR PURE COMMUNITY WITH THIS FILTH!'Rachel's face fell-yes-she was drinking again!but only half a glass a day!she didn't have a drink problem!'alright!alright!i enjoy a drink now and then!where's the harm?'the reverend shook his head sadly 'i'm afraid it's goodbye Rachel'-Rachel was expelled from the community-within a week she was drinking excessively-she finally managed to persuade the reverand to take her back-on one condition 'you must become a Soldier-once you've become one,you must obey all orders from your commanding officer!'Rachel accepted-within 3 months she was dry again-she was proudly presented with her new uniform-very similar to an army uniform 'you must understand,that all transgressions you commited must now be paid back in full!'the reverand told Rachel sternly 'as i said,this is a free community-but you solemnly accepted the position of a private in the Christian Soldiers!please recite your oath Rachel 'i solemnly accept all orders of the Christian Soldiers without question-i accept-with absolutely no reservations-any punishment imposed on me by my commanding officers''do you fully understand what that means Rachel?'Rachel started too look confused-the reverand sighs!'it means that you have to be physically chastised!'Rachel was horrified!when she thought she was to be 'punished' 'i thought it would simply be to work as a 'skivvy' for a while-things like helping clean the houses of community members-not pleasant-but 'penance'she protested'you wear the uniform of a Christian Soldier-we can punish you how we like!it's true-we often impose 'penance' on our community members for small transgressions-for the older members of the community it is things like confiscating their tv or radio's for a while-but for younger members who seriously transgress our rules they must face corporal punishment-or leave the community for good!'Rachel could see the community waiting for her answer-she had been really stupid!she had never felt better these last 2 years!she had got a good steady job as a librarian!men respected her now as well-she no longer dressed as a tart from 'TOWIE'[one of her former favourite programmes- till the community had ordered her to stop watching this 'sinful' programme!]'w-will it be very painful?'Rachel tentatively asked-the community members all smiled 'the lamb has returned to the fold!'one woman said joyously 'Rachel-it's not too late to back out-you can take off that uniform right now and walk out-but if you do there's no coming back this time!what happens next is of your own free will!'Rachel started to take off her uniform- as she was terrified of what punishment she would get 'i-i'm very sorry reverand Walters-i-i can't go through with it!''so be it!'the reverend sighed 'if you can just get me my clothes please?'
