Are you curious about how much pain you can tolerate? I hear many subs say they have a high threshold for pain but how do they know, is it just because they can handle stubbing their toe or have suffered some nasty injury in the past? Well here is a little experiment borrowed from the Mythbusters but also widely used in the medical research area as a standard pain test and all you need is some ice water. Now this is not just cold water but water that is about a 50/50 mix of water and ice so it sits pretty much precisely at 0 deg C. If possible use a large container like a bucket but anything large enough to immerse your whole hand will do. Now simply dunk your hand in there with a timer running and see how long you can stand it. Don't be too shocked if you can't take even 30 seconds and never go more than 3 minutes despite how tough you think you might be. Statistically girls do better than guys at this and there may be something physiologically different in the nerve pattern and blood flow in the hands of males and females.
Oh and one final point, this isn't a contest, it's just a good measure you can use to find out how you really do handle pain. And if you do decide to try it please DO NOT exceed 3 minutes, if you make it that far any longer wont prove anything and could harm you.
