This has been copied form getdare, because i was asked to put it on here. So some of it applies more readerly to there.

After talking to a load of people in chat and other friends I have become increasingly aware just how many younger people (12+) are on getdare and other chat rooms/forums. I noticed there doesn’t seem to be guidelines for how to be safe on the internet so thought I’d give a few common sense guidelines based around getdare.

Stick to your nick from getdare until you know the person better, sounds silly but not giving them your real name adds a safety barrier. Don't give out your Sir name. Someone could work out where you live from this.

Never give out your home address and keep the area you live general, no specifics.

If your Myspace has your address on it then don’t link it to your getdare profile. I’d advise not putting it on their anyway along with Facebook etc. This includes not sending a link of a photo from your Facebook etc, people can easily access your profile from that.

Don’t’ give out your phone number. If you want to call the person you can on MSN for free as well as Skype. You can just block and delete them if you need to and they won’t be able to contact you.

Set up a separate IM account for people you meet online. Go in the getdare chat for the first couple of times. You will soon work out if all they want is naked photos of you without having to give out contact details and it’s a safe environment to do so.

If you have only seen one grainy photo of the person chances are they aren’t who they say they are. Ask for a couple of face shots just to make sure. On MSN and Yahoo messenger you can do this as your display pic without having to send the photo.

Don’t send photos/videos of you with your face in it to anyone you haven’t known a while. You could end up with some embarrassing things being published on the internet. Nearly had that happen to me :s

If they won’t send any photos back even just ones of their feet or something then maybe they aren’t who they say they are.

Have a look at their previous getdare posts and profile. Can find out a fair bit that way. If someone just has a profile and no decent posts chances are they are trolling for people to “chat” to and not much else. These are normally the people to watch out for.

If anyone sends you a pm asking for naked pictures etc then either report it to a moderator or delete and don’t answer it. This is against getdare rules!

Under 18s are not allowed to advertise in the slave/master area, be sensible and don’t lie about your age you can get yourself into some serious trouble.

It’s not fair to tell someone your of legal age when you aren’t. They could get in serious trouble because of you being childish. Don’t be immature and lie about your age.

There will always be people who pretend to be younger than they are. It’s hard to tell sometimes when they are doing this so just be aware. You can normally tell from spelling and how someone types how old they are and again from their previous posts.

If you feel you are being bullied then report it. Don’t stay quiet. Cyber bullying is becoming an ever increasing problem and it can get extremely bad.

Always log out of your account especially when not on your own computer. Leaving yourself logged in will obviously allow people to access your whole account and spam then site.

If you don’t want people to find out what you get up to on getdare then don’t put your photo on your profile. Can lead to embarrassing questions etc.

Above all be sensible and use your common sense. If you aren’t sure about someone then treat them with caution. There are some great people on the internet and some weird ones too. Have fun and be safe :)

this all is 100% true!

unless you are into that sort of play do not just jump onto your webcam or send pics with your face in them.

the people who have seen me earned my trust.

YES keep your friends list for RL friends seperate from your playtime online lists.
some people you trust may make the jump from one to the other but they should accept it. it also protects you from showing off photos of your body to your mother. (not happened to me)

Interesting link

I came across a fine article lately and thought about this thread as it seem to be a nice complement to it. It has plenty of good advices and tips from online contacts to first offline meetings and can be applied to pretty much any kind of potential relationships, not only D/s. Since the article is a bit long I won't copy/paste it so if anyone want to read follow the link below :)

I don't get the 18+ rule. Sex is allowed at 16, so why shouldn't this be?

(btw I'm 16 myself, that's why I was wondering.)

Well i see you from holland (so am i) over here soft porn is alowed for 16+ and hard porn 18+. But probably in some country's its 18+ that why you mostly find a 18+ restriction on almost any website. and now you have told that your 16 you will probably get banned from this website.

(sorry for the bad english)

The members on Kink Talk are as safe and reliable as anywhere else. All sites have the good and bad, real and fake, just horny and looking for serious relationships. Following Sugar's original suggestions will help keep you safe no matter which site you use. Take your time and develop trust before you leap into anything.

The communication you have with your partner is going to be dependent on what works for you both. All of them have advantages and drawbacks.

So it seems a little hard to understand exactly what you're asking here. I think if this was done in a respectful way then anyone talking about moving things forward as potential has every right to ask about if the other person has any physical or mental disabilities or issues. I would see it as more a concern for that persons well being. I myself have experience with subs who have had PTSD, Bi polar, Anxiety, Depression, and others. The one thing they complained about most was when doms who didn't know how to handle them insisted they could anyways and it usually resulted in a negative experience for both sides. You really have to approach things from a different direction and be educated in the issues involved. A good friend of mine was with a "dom" and she had a panic attack in the middle of a session, she locked up in fetal position started grabbing at her neck and breathing heavy and choking. He had prior to claimed he knew about it all and could handle it. Instead he just got his things and left her there all alone.

As far as physical issues. I ask that of potentials as well. I couldn't very well expect the sub to kneel if she has knee issues. I cant expect the sub to do certain types of extreme play if she has an auto immune disorder or blood issues that prevent clotting. Blood pressure or heart issues. Asthma. There are higher risks that come into play when physical ability is compromised, so yes I always ask potential subs if there is any physical or emotional/ mental things I should know about.

Now if you're just saying he was an ass and when you failed to answer him quickly or do something he asked and then he said are "you stupid" or similar insults. Then yes block him and move on hes clearly a dick.

@subzzzero has covered most of this, also keep in mind that with an international membership some people do not have English as their first language and it is very easy to misinterpret questions if they are phrased incorrectly.
