The snail and stairs both have 'these', and I believe he was hinting that the answer would be reflected in the 'plug'+'tail'....
I'm starting to think 'a place to go' or 'goes somewhere' and a plug's place is a tail?

In the bottom image you need to make one word, look at what the first half is (maybe google the number on it?) and the fact that there is only part of the fish.

Good try however not all stairs are spiral and all stairs have this and all snails have one too.

Ok... working on the bottom pic. That's a transistor or chip in the first half. The second is a fish or a tail? Does the type of fish matter? Crap. Feel like I'm missing the obvious here.
