Ive seen this with 3/4 inch pvc with a rope threaded through and out each end and knotted with snap latches and then latched to eye hooks installed to the joists of a ceiling. The rope knots determined the length and it could be adjusted so that her weight bore down and her tippy toes barely touched the floor. Ok, you're thinking cardboard isn't going to cut it here, however it does work! I experimented a bit and by using a nice heavy duty carton was able to get a really strong result. Now obviously being "mini" it must be used kneeling but that's ok as it makes it much smaller and easier to store away, it's also very light and easy to pop away on that top shelf in your wardrobe out of sight.

All you'll require to make one is a nice strong carton, small moving cartons are ideal but one that you've had from a delivery etc is fine too. As long as it has the heavy, thick, 6mm (1/4") cardboard construction it will be strong enough. You'll also need some packing tape, a box cutter knife, a marker pen and ruler.



This is my original design idea, you can see it takes a standard carton then cuts are made to the ends and then the sides fold in and honestly, that's about it!

Here are some photos from the one I made to try it out. The carton I had handy was about 360mm wide and 360mm high (about 14") which is a bit small. Look for something in the 400-450mm (16-18") size and it will be perfect. You can check the height your box will give against your crotch height when kneeling (knees apart) to see if it will be ok. If you come up a bit low you can easily stand your mini pony on a few big books to boost its height.



All the parts and tools needed.



Split the box on the 4 corners.



Pull the sides together,



Mark the ends to cut,



Cut the ends out, note top flaps folded inward to provide a strong spine.



Tape the top spine of the mini pony using packing tape.



And tape the corners of the ends. And you're done!

Be sure to use lots of tape on the top edge and quite a way down the sides as this will protect the cardboard from getting wet. It really is about as simple as DIY pony is going to get so if you've always wanted to test one out please give this a try.
Now obviously it's going to give the same experience as full size standing pony but if you work it out right so that when you straddle it your knees only just touch the ground or even slightly off the ground it will put a good amount of pressure on those sensitive bits.

EDIT: I've had a few comments about this regarding its strength, as I mentioned it is quite strong, I stood my weight on the spine of my test one and it supported me ok. That said this isn't intended to be a long term device, more of a disposable thing so you can try it out then toss it away.

Heavy duty large and extra large cardboard moving boxes can be found at lowes or home depot for around $5 for those in the US. They sell 2 grades of moving boxes. With covid shortages you may have to look via store search online or try several stores. You could double a standard grade moving box or single 1 heavy grade. For those outside the US, web search for moving boxes and stores that sell them. Office supply or building supply are usual suspects, but add also goods rerailers.
